I have a simple Inkjet connected to my desktop PC via a USB cable.
I have it share over my local home network.
The Computer i am attpemting to connect to the shared printer is running Vista. I can browse the network, and can see the shared printer, but when i attempt to browse, or add a shared printer, i keep receiving this error msg:
The server for the "Cannon Inkjet iP6310C" printer does not have the correct print driver installed.
I have downloaded and installed the Canon driver on the Vista machine, as well as the Windows 7 box.
There is an item with the printers folder. When i double click this folder, i again see the canon inkjet print que, but I am un-able to connect to the printer.
I have tried just about everything, and am at the point of giving up.
I have tried to add a local printer, and to add a port pointing to the share computer, but i get an access denied msg which i can not get around.

Please help if you can

Thank you
David

Solution
David, it seems like you're encountering driver-related issues while trying to connect a shared Canon inkjet printer from a Windows 7 PC to a Vista PC over the network. Let's walk through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Step 1: Ensure Correct Driver Installation

  1. On Windows 7 PC:
    • Confirm that you have installed the correct Canon printer driver.
    • Make sure the driver version matches the printer model (iP6310C) and is compatible with Windows 7.
    []On Vista PC:
    • Verify that the Canon printer driver you installed on the Vista machine is also the correct one for the printer model and Vista operating system.

      Step 2: Printer Sharing Setup

      Step 2: Printer Sharing Setup

    [
    ]On Windows 7 PC:
    • Check the printer sharing settings to ensure the printer is shared on the network.
    • Make sure the printer is set to be visible and accessible by other devices on the network.

Step 3: Adding the Printer on Vista PC

  1. Add the Printer:
    • Try adding the shared printer on the Vista PC again:
      • Go to "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers" > "Add a printer".
      • Choose "Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer".
      • Select the shared Canon printer from the list and follow the installation prompts.
    []Installation Error:
    • If you encounter the driver error again, try this alternative step:
      • During the printer setup, when prompted to select a driver, choose the option to "Have Disk" and manually provide the correct driver path.

Step 4: Troubleshooting Access Denied Issue

    [
    ]Shared Printer Permissions:
    • Check the printer sharing permissions on the Windows 7 PC.
    • Ensure that the "Everyone" group or specific users have the necessary permissions to access the shared printer.
  2. Network Sharing Troubleshooting:
    • If you continue to face access denied errors, you may need to troubleshoot network sharing permissions and firewall settings on both PCs.

      Additional Tips

      • Restart both PCs after making changes to ensure settings are applied.
      • Disable any firewall or security software temporarily to check if they are blocking printer sharing.
Try these steps and let me know if you encounter any specific errors or issues during the process. We can further troubleshoot based on the feedback.
