I have a HP Laserjet 1010 USBconnected to my Win7computer. Got that working with Vista drivers for Laserjet 1015, since there is no drivers for win7. Now i´m trying to connect my laptop with XP to it using my home network. I have no problem finding or connecting to the printer or computers on the network. But i don´t seem to be able to get the right drivers for it. The XP laptop complains that the servers printerdriver is not correct. I have tried to direct it to both the drivers i use on the Win7 machine and the XP machine. (the printer works if i connect it to the XPmachine with usb).
Any suggestions?

It sounds like you're facing driver compatibility issues when trying to connect your HP Laserjet 1010 printer, shared from the Windows 7 computer, to an XP laptop over the network. The error message about the server's printer driver not being correct typically indicates a mismatch between the printer drivers installed on the server (Windows 7 in this case) and the client (XP laptop). To resolve this issue and successfully connect the XP laptop to the shared printer, here are some steps you can take:

To resolve this issue and successfully connect the XP laptop to the shared printer, here are some steps you can take:

Steps to Resolve Printer Driver Mismatch Issue:

  1. Ensure Proper Printer Sharing:
    • Make sure the HP Laserjet 1010 printer is correctly shared on the Windows 7 computer.
    []Driver Installation on Windows 7:
    • Confirm that the printer driver for the HP Laserjet 1010 is correctly installed on the Windows 7 computer. This driver should be the one intended for the connected printer model.
    [
    ]Install Additional Drivers:
    • On the Windows 7 computer, you may need to add additional drivers for other operating systems. This enables the XP client to automatically download and install the correct driver.
    • To do this, go to the printer properties on the Windows 7 computer, select the "Sharing" tab, and then click on "Additional Drivers." From here, you can add the XP driver.
[]Direct XP Laptop to Correct Driver:
    • When connecting to the shared printer from the XP laptop, ensure that you direct it to the correct driver. You may need to manually select the XP driver during the setup process.
    [
    ]Download XP Drivers:
    • If you don't have the XP driver for the HP Laserjet 1010, you should download it from the HP website or use compatible drivers that work with Windows XP.

      Additional Suggestions:

    • Driver Compatibility Mode:
    • You can try running the HP Laserjet 1010 Vista driver in compatibility mode on the Windows 7 computer. Right-click on the driver installer, go to Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab to select compatibility with Windows Vista.
    • Windows Update:
    • Check if Windows Update on the XP laptop can find and install the correct driver for the shared printer. By following these steps and ensuring the correct drivers are installed and configured for both the Windows 7 computer and the XP laptop, you should be able to successfully connect and use the HP Laserjet 1010 printer over the network.
