Hi,

I've recently formatted my computer and did a fresh install of Win7 64 bit to take advantage of my 6gb of memory.

For the first 3 weeks everything was smooth, until I started getting multiple blue screens during full screen gameplay.

It seems a little intermittent, I can play some days without any issues.
I've uploaded my dumps from the start of this issue to my skydrive.
Located here: Link Removed due to 404 Error

Please bear in mind, that i've tried multiple things since the first dump to the latest dump file. I've also installed new hardware yesterday - but please dont jump on this as the reason as the BSODs were happening before.

My computer specs:

First set of dumps:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R (Bios F1)
RAM: 6GB Corsair
CPU: Intel i7 950 (stock)
GPU 2x nVidia 9800GTX (stock)
HDD: 1TB WD HDD\
Keyboard/Mouse: Logitech G15/G7

Latest Dumps (new hardware - unrelated to previous crashes):
Mouse: Logitech m950
GPU: nVidia GTX 480

Most Recent BSOD info (copy pasted from windows boot pop-up):

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Please?

EDIT/UPDATE:

I've figured out I can cause BSODs whenever I want by running Starcraft 2 and alt-tabbing. As soon as i attempt that, screen goes black, and BSOD appears.
(the latest two dumps are from that)

Hey.

The first thing to do is to get rid of Avast since there was a 0x3b error. Here is a special tool to remove it, to be used in safe mode:

AV Uninstallers - Windows 7 Forums

I recommend replacing it with MSE since that will never cause a bsod and is very light on resources.

-----

Daemon Tools and sptd.sys are notorious for crashing Windows 7. Please uninstall Daemon Tools in the normal method and then use the installer/uninstaller from here, to remove sptd.sys from the system:

I recommend PowerISO for disc emulation since it is perfectly stable under Windows 7. Emulation part of the program is free forever.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I just uninstalled Daemon and SPTD, and will remove Avast now.

I'll let you know how it goes.

After uninstalling Avast and rebooting I attempted to force a Blue Screen by tabbing in and out like I had done previously, and all seems well on that front.
I'll potter about in-game and see if I can get another one. If I do, i'll let you know.
Hopefully though it was just Daemon/Avast!

Thanks again!

Sigh,

It happened again. Exact same cause - tabbing out of Starcraft. Please though, bear in mind that its not just tabbing out in the past that's caused my blue screens.
I've uploaded the latest dump to my SkyDrive.

Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

All the drivers look well now. I would update all Logitech drivers for gaming devices, keyboard and/or mouse for good measure.

If you continue to have bsod after, enable Driver Verifier. It has a fair chance of pinpointing the actual faulting driver, if in fact there is one.

Here's how:

Link Removed

If there is any overclocking in the cpu/ram/vram/gpu, set to default values.

Sorry if I missed it, but I didnt see any mention of "Driver Verifier" in that post you linked, so I googled it, and I'm following these instructions:

It can be helpful to use Driver Verifier. To enable Driver Verifier... start->verifier.exe->OK->Create standard settings- >Next->select driver names from a list->Next->sort by Provider->select all non-Microsoft drivers->Finish, and OK your way out of the dialog.
Then, reboot and use the system as you normally would, and wait for a problem. In the event that the system does not boot completely after enabling driver verifier, boot into Safe Mode and run driver verifier, and tell it to delete the changes.

Not sure if thats the correct way to use it though. These are from the microsoft forums though!
Also I do not have any overclocking on my system unless its factory default! I normally don't bother with that because I know of the instability/voltage/heat issues that can arise from it!

I'll wait before doing the verifier, incase im incorrect!

Thanks again!

David

Thanks Captain,

I've followed those instructions, and I'll try and see if I can get it to crash.
Once it does crash however, do I need to do anything special other than turning off Verifier?

I just upload the normal dump file yeah?

Cheers,

David

Don't turn off Verifier now. Let it run for 36 hours upload the dump that has crashed after turning on Verifier.

- Captain

Ok, so I've had verifier running on the non-windows drivers for a few days now (had no crashes, so I left it on)

Was playing a game, and on exit of that application I got a blue screen.

I've uploaded my latest dump to the skydrive in my first post, not sure what else to say, it was pretty much the same as the last crash - just not while tabbing out, but quitting the game.

Cheers,

David

----EDIT---

Happened again, while alt tabbing. Uploaded dump.

Just another update before I go to bed:

Today was a bad day for crashes, every time I ran a full screen game - I would blue screen on alt-tab, or about 5 seconds after quitting the game.

The stop message was always the same, and I've uploaded the dumps from today/tonight - they are the 4 newest dumps here: Link Removed due to 404 Error

Any help would be appreciated!

David

Edit - Just noticed these are verified crashes. I still don't see any driver to blame, but am still looking...I'll edit post soon with anything I find.

2nd Edit - I could suggest to update all the drivers for all of your Logitech devices. Game pads, mouse, keyboard, all that you have from them:

Link Removed

Whatever game SC2.exe is, I would try to patch that to latest available as well.

Keep the Driver Verifier running and please post new crashes after if still needed.

Thanks for your continued help TorrentG.

I've updated all my logitech drivers, even though their automatic updates informed me they were up-to-date. Also SC2.exe is Starcraft 2 from Blizzard, which has a built in updater that runs each time the game is started. It is the latest version.

I've noticed that these crashes don't occur all the time as currently this morning, I've attempted to crash my computer several times using different full screen applications, in exactly the same way that was causing repeated crashes yesterday with no result. I know this doesn't mean it is fixed, because this was exactly what was occuring before, it just perplexes me that we can't seem to pin-point the cause!

Could it be a windows driver causing this?

Since last night, I've disabled UAC for the time being, to see if that helps (not sure if it will anyway).
I'll post back if I get another crash.

Thanks again for your help!

David

You're welcome, of course.

Absolutely 0% chance that a Windows OS driver could be at fault. It simply does not happen, ever. (You would hear it in the news if some problem like this existed.)

Perhaps the Logitech drivers were playing some sort of role, although they weren't too old.

Best advice at this point is to keep using the pc as you wish and if there is a new crash dump, post it. If none happen for a few days, then don't forget to disable Driver Verifier.

Well this mornings luck ran out.
Came home from University, booted up the PC, switched to a full screen game and played for about 15minutes, exited the application, and while exiting back to windows I got a blue screen.

Dump Uploaded.

:(

Interesting!!

After testing out a theroy I had that related to my iPhone and my USB stick being plugged in - which all resulted in BSODs - I decided to unplug my

second monitor from my GPU to see if that was causing the errors.
And after 4 consecutive Blue Screens, I was able to actually play a game, tab out, and quit the application all with no errors.

I'm thinking either the Generic PnP Monitor drivers are at fault, or something is dodgy with my two resolutions running at the same time?

I've uploaded the other dumps that relate to the previous crashes.

Any information on this would be appreciated!

Regards,

David.

Different resolutions aren't the problem. Perhaps not having the manufacturer's driver for one of the monitors installed could be the problem, but that would be rare.

You simply must try to install the correct monitor driver though, based on your description alone.

Here's the debug output for anyone curious - It's a shame that these don't show the monitors at all ever though:
