Microsoft has launched Copilot Cowork as if the enterprise AI market has moved past the novelty of chat and into the harder business of accountable delegation. That is the right bet, but it is also the harder one: agents that act must be priced, governed, audited, limited, and trusted in ways that chatbots never were. If Microsoft can make autonomous work feel as administrable as the rest of Microsoft 365, Cowork could become the first agent many enterprises actually depend on; if not, it will become another promising AI feature fenced off by cautious IT departments until the controls catch up with the ambition.
