Hi there,

I am trying to connect two laptops via a crossover cable - one running XP, and the other windows 7 enterprise 64 bit.

I have done this exercise before with problems when connecting 2 laptops, both running XP. I have done all the things normall required for connecting with a crossover:
Set fixed IP addresses for both (win7 laptop 192.168.0.1 on ipv4, xp laptop 192.168.0.2)
Disabled firewalls on both

My win7 laptop shows its ip address when I do and ipconfig. XP laptop shows no IP address. Laptops cant ping each other

Any ideas?

Regards
Chris

You could try a normal cable for the heck of it.

Any modern ethernet adapter will have the ability to detect and auto-configure, which makes the crossover cable unnecessary.

Make sure you set the ip address of the other machine as the default gateway, for each.
