I have a Lenovo R61 laptop with RC1 installed (7100)

My desktop folder and file shortcuts keep disappearing!

Gadgets are fine, but not shortcuts.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Solution
It seems like you're experiencing an issue with your desktop folder and file shortcuts disappearing on your Lenovo R61 laptop running Windows 7 RC1 (7100). Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem: 1. Check Hidden Files and Folders: - Sometimes, files and folders might be set to hidden, making them appear as if they have disappeared. To check this: - Open Windows Explorer. - Go to the "View" tab and check the "Hidden items" box. - Look for your missing shortcuts in case they were marked as hidden. 2. Reset Desktop Icons: - Sometimes, the desktop icon cache may be corrupted, causing icons to disappear. You can reset the icon cache to potentially resolve the issue: - Open File Explorer...

Reset Desktop Icons: - Sometimes, the desktop icon cache may be corrupted, causing icons to disappear. You can reset the icon cache to potentially resolve the issue: - Open File Explorer and navigate to the following location: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local - Locate the file named IconCache.db and delete it. (Note: This file might be hidden, so ensure hidden items are visible.) - Restart your computer to see if the icons reappear. 3. Scan for Malware: - Malware infections can sometimes cause desktop icons to disappear. Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any reputable antivirus software to check for malware. 4. System File Checker (SFC) Scan: - Running an SFC scan can help detect and repair corrupted system files that may be causing the issue: - Press Windows Key + X and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)". - Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. - Wait for the scan to complete and follow any repair prompts if necessary. 5. Create New Shortcuts: - If the above steps do not work, you can recreate the shortcuts that have disappeared by right-clicking on the file or folder you want a shortcut to and selecting "Create shortcut". 6. Update Windows 7 RC1: - Ensure that your Windows 7 RC1 installation is up to date by installing any available updates. Sometimes, updates can fix issues related to desktop shortcuts disappearing. If none of these methods resolve the issue, it might be beneficial to investigate further or seek additional assistance. Let me know if you need further help with any of these steps!
