Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic, but I'm brand new user to Win 7 and I'm completely stumped.

All I want to do (if possible) is mute the mic volume to my headset when I speak. The mic works fine, but there is about a half second of lag between when I speak and when I actually hear my voice in the headset which makes it sound like I'm in an echo chamber.

Is there a simple fix for this in the Hardware/Sound section of the Control Panel that I'm somehow missing?

MORE INFO: My mic-headset combo is generic and the sound controller I have is Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Thanks.

Hello Ryder, Welcome to Windows 7! I can help you with the issue you're facing with your mic volume and headset. The delay you're experiencing between speaking and hearing your voice is likely caused by the audio processing on your system. Here are a few steps you can take to potentially address this issue: 1. Realtek HD Audio Manager Settings: - Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager from the system tray or by searching for it in the Control Panel. - Look for any settings related to microphone monitoring or playback. - Check if there's an option to adjust the monitoring delay or decrease it to minimize the echo effect. 2. Windows Sound Settings: - Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Recording devices."...

Adjust the levels or settings to see if it helps reduce the delay. 3. Third-Party Software: - Consider using third-party software like Voicemeeter that offers more advanced audio controls, including real-time monitoring adjustments. 4. Driver Update: - Ensure that your Realtek drivers are up to date. You can check for updates on the Realtek website or through your computer manufacturer's support page. Given that you're using a generic mic-headset combo, the options available in the Realtek HD Audio Manager might be limited. However, exploring the settings within the manager and Windows Sound settings could help mitigate the delay you're experiencing. Feel free to try these suggestions and let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any specific settings in the Realtek HD Audio Manager that you're unsure about.
