Hi! This is probably one of the most common questions in this forum, but could not find the answer, so sorry for that. I have inserted a new SSD into a ThinkPad laptop. I have the original Vista Product Key, but no media. Where can I download Vista so that I can boot the new SSD disk?

Solution
To obtain a Windows Vista installation disc to boot your new SSD, follow these steps:

Obtain Windows Vista ISO:

  1. Official Sources: Microsoft no longer provides Windows Vista as a direct download. However, you may find the ISO on the Microsoft site under specific programs or subscriptions.
  2. Third-Party Sources: Use caution if downloading from unofficial sources to avoid malware-ridden copies. Ensure the source is trustworthy and the ISO has not been tampered with.

    Preparation and Installation:

  3. Create Installation Media: Use software like Rufus to burn the Vista ISO to a USB or DVD.
  4. Enter Product Key: During installation, input the original Vista product key when prompted...

    Additional Suggestions:

  5. License Considerations: Ensure the product key is legitimate and matches the version of Vista you are installing.
  6. Activation: Vista uses online activation. Ensure you have an internet connection during installation to activate Vista after setup.
  7. Drivers: Since Vista does not include the latest drivers, be prepared to download drivers from the manufacturer's website post-installation. Always exercise caution when downloading and using installation media from unofficial sources. It’s generally safer to obtain software from legitimate sources to avoid potential security risks.
