Windows 7 dectects primary monitor HF229 correctly with 1680x1050 res. Second monitor is same HF229 but detects it as Generic PNP Monitor with max resolution of 1600x1200. Having flicker problems at lower than 75mhz and 1680x1050 on either monitor.

How can I get 2nd monitor to display properly?

Intel Q9550, Gigabyte board, ATI Radeon 4870 all drivers in windows and ATI are updated.

Solution
To troubleshoot the issue with your second monitor displaying as a Generic PNP Monitor with a lower resolution than expected, you can try the following steps:

Potential Solutions:

  1. Update Monitor Driver:
    • Open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
    • Locate the second monitor under Monitors and right-click on it.
    • Select Update driver and choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
    []Install Manufacturer's Driver:
    • Visit the manufacturer's website of the monitor (HF229) and look for the latest driver specifically for that monitor model.

    ]Adjust Screen Resolution:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    • Check if the correct resolution (1680x1050) is available for the second monitor.
    • You can also try to set the resolution to the desired 1680x1050 manually if it's not selected automatically.
    []Monitor Settings:
    • Use the monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display) settings to adjust the resolution and refresh rate if necessary.
    [
    ]Check Cable and Connections:
    • Ensure that the cables connecting the second monitor are securely plugged in and not damaged.
    []Update Graphics Drivers:
    • While you mentioned that your ATI Radeon 4870 drivers are updated, you can verify this by visiting the ATI website and ensuring you have the latest drivers for your GPU.
    [
    ]Custom Resolution:
    • You can create a custom resolution for the second monitor using the AMD/ATI Catalyst Control Center (if available) to force 1680x1050 resolution.
  2. Check Refresh Rate:
    • Ensure that the refresh rate for both monitors is set to at least 75Hz to avoid flickering issues.

Additional Tips:

  • Restart your computer after making any changes to apply them effectively.
  • Test the second monitor on another system to check if the issue persists, which can help determine if the problem lies with the monitor itself.
By following these steps, you should be able to address the issue with your second monitor displaying at the correct resolution and avoid the flickering problems.
