I have a computer with dual monitors on a splitter off the DVI video card. I need to set the display to the same on both. I have done this but there are times when the second display will not display anything and I have to go to personalize, display settings and re-discover the second display then all is well.

Is there a way to force the display to persistently maintain the second display without having to go in and re-discover? The video card is good and the monitors are fine but this is a stopping point for a project I am working on.

Thx

Solution
To address the issue of one of your dual monitors not displaying consistently, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem to ensure the second display persists without needing manual intervention each time:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Cable Connections: Verify the connections between the monitor and the splitter. Ensure that all cables are securely connected to rule out any loose connections.
  2. Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.

  2. Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.
  3. Monitor Power Settings: Check the power settings on your monitors. Make sure they are not set to turn off automatically or go into power-saving mode.
  4. Windows Display Settings: Ensure that Windows is set to extend or duplicate the displays correctly. You can access this by right-clicking on the desktop, selecting "Display settings," and adjusting the display mode.
  5. Monitor Configuration in BIOS: Some graphics cards require specific configurations in the BIOS to properly support dual monitors. Check the BIOS settings to ensure that both displays are recognized correctly.
  6. Check Monitor Settings: Verify that the second monitor is configured correctly with the appropriate resolution and refresh rate in the Windows display settings.
  7. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that Windows is up to date with the latest updates. Sometimes, system updates can also resolve issues related to display configurations.
  8. Power Management Settings: Adjust the power management settings in Windows to prevent the monitors from going to sleep or turning off unexpectedly.

    Persistent Display Configuration:

To force Windows to persistently maintain the second display configuration without resetting, you can try the following steps:
  9. Save Display Settings: After setting your displays to duplicate, you can try saving the display settings as a custom profile. This can help Windows remember your preferred display configuration.
  10. Third-Party Tools: Consider using third-party display management tools that offer more advanced configuration options and may help in maintaining consistent display settings.
  11. Scheduled Task: You can create a scheduled task in Windows Task Scheduler to automatically run a script that resets the display settings in case they change unexpectedly. By following these steps and ensuring proper configurations, you should be able to maintain a consistent dual-monitor setup without the need to manually rediscover the second display each time. If the issue persists, further troubleshooting or professional assistance may be required.
