I had recently installed Win 7 Ultimate x64. I found that the cd drive would not read DVD DL. I tried all methods(incl all KB articles) and finally decided to go back to x32 hoping that the change would cure it. No chance. It reads all other types of DVD ok and writes too. I have tried several different DVD DL. I used an external iOmega DVD drive - and found that 10% of the time that drive would read the DVD DL - in most of these 10% cases only for a short time - after reading a folder or two the drive would disappear!

    ]Media Quality:
    • Sometimes, the issues with reading specific discs can be due to the quality of the media. Try using high-quality DVD DL discs from reputable brands to see if that makes a difference.
    []External Drive and Connection:
    • Since you tried using an external iOmega DVD drive, there might be a possibility of a connection issue or compatibility problem. Ensure that the external drive is properly connected and powered.
    • Test the external drive on another computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is related to the drive itself or the computer.

    ]System Health Check:
    • Perform a system health check to ensure that there are no underlying system issues affecting the DVD drive's functionality. This can include running diagnostic tools or checking for any conflicting software.
