I’m thrilled to announce our partnership with Election Systems & Software (ES&S). ES&S has chosen Windows tablets to power a new and innovative fleet of industry-leading electronic poll books!

We are so proud to be the technology of choice for a company doing such important work and on such a massive scale. ES&S specializes in voting machines, election management systems and services that support democratic elections. And they are using Windows tablets to power electronic poll books to enhance the voting experience – making it quick and convenient for voters to electronically check-in, validate and update their registration information and view important election details. This solution is easy for poll workers to operate resulting in efficiency improvements and increased accuracy of voter registration data.

The tablet selected by ES&S for its electronic poll book is the 10-inch Toshiba Encore 2 Windows tablet powered by the quad-core Intel® AtomTM processor. The tablet was an easy choice for ES&S because of its lightweight, sleek design, impressive performance and its value-oriented pricing. Because the tablet is powered by Windows 8.1 Professional, ES&S was able to bring its EZ-Roster poll book application, previously operating on a Microsoft Window CE platform, to the new tablets in less than 60 days – from start to finish. The processes and infrastructure necessary to support the app didn’t have to change, so the migration was a relatively seamless one.

For this critical system, making the switch to Windows tablets was an easy choice for ES&S. They expressed that competing solutions just weren’t robust enough to meet their needs. Windows tablets provide a few unique benefits that were of particular interest to ES&S – including the stability of the operating system, robust support for peripherals, as well as the ability to lock-down the device environment. The overall solution was also a cost-competitive one for ES&S, especially since they were able to leverage their existing application code base and system integrations.

ES&S is planning to deploy tens of thousands of these devices in this strong and growing market space.

We’re excited about this news and thrilled to be the technology of choice for ES&S!
