Hi, when I try to create a new folder from left-clicking a desktop space I get this message:

Item not found.

This is no longer located inC:\users\admin Verify its location and then try again

can anyone tell me how to rectify this please?

Solution
After doing the system restore, I had other problems that I was unable to resolve and so I undid the restore and it put the problems right, but the original problem persisted. So (and this will please bochane,) I repeated your instructions and they worked.. Thank you so much.

Open Explorer by pressing Windows - and E - key together
Navigate to 'Desktop' or C:\Users\<your login name>\Desktop
Right click on 'Desktop' and select 'Properties'
Click on 'Location' on top of the 'Desktop Properties' window
Click on 'Restore Default'

Many thanks, bochane I presumed that Admin was the same as `your log in name` alas it has not worked. many thanks for trying. If I go into my files from the DT, right-click on an open space I can open a new folder from there. but it's not right.

Sorry to hear that.
Does it tell you, using the same commands, where it is located now?

I'll check!! I think it went wrong when I change where to save word files (365) for the desktop to be the default location.

The right click > New menu is driven from values stored in the registry. If it was doing anything unusual it's likely from either editing the registry or installing some utility that screwed up the registry.

I don't think I understand what you did and what went wrong, and maybe postings crossed each other, who cares, all is well as end is well
Very good
