Hello
I hope this is the appropriate place for my topic as it is non Windows.
I was thinking of getting a Cloudbook as we are older and need simplicity. Windows is going techy. I have read a lot about these books and they seem a lot simpler to run. There is no maintenance and security seems not to be a concern if you don't put sensitive data in the cloud. I think we can cloudprint, email, surf, write letters with Doxc instead of Word, do art and photos with Picasa etc.. I would get a couple of usb ports and an Intel processor.
I think you can image or back up the book to an external drive or to the cloud for anything you have downloaded if things go awry.
I think you can find one with an Ethernet cable so you could use a router but am not sure if you need one.
Please understand this is not for business but for older retirees tired of fighting the good fight with MS. I have Gmail account and have used Thunderbird so am familiar with Google to a degree. I always swore I would stick to Windows but they are not gearing towards the average person. Google's need for intuition always bothered me as you have to hover all over to find things but nothing is perfect.
Any ideas gladly accepted.

Hello! It sounds like you're considering a Cloudbook as a simpler and more user-friendly alternative to traditional Windows laptops. Cloudbooks are light and portable laptops that primarily rely on cloud services for storage and applications. Here are some points to consider based on your preferences and requirements:

Pros of Cloudbooks:

  1. Simplicity: Cloudbooks are designed to be easy to use, with minimal maintenance required. They often come with pre-installed cloud-based apps for everyday tasks.
  2. Security: Since most of your data is stored in the cloud, security risks are reduced as long as you don't store sensitive information locally. Cloud providers usually have robust security measures.

  2. Security: Since most of your data is stored in the cloud, security risks are reduced as long as you don't store sensitive information locally. Cloud providers usually have robust security measures.
  3. Cloud Printing and Emailing: Cloudbooks usually work well with cloud printing services and email clients like Gmail.
  4. Productivity Apps: Cloudbooks typically support web-based productivity tools like Google Docs (similar to Doxc) and online photo editing tools like Google Photos or other cloud services.
  5. Backup Options: You can backup data either to an external drive or to the cloud for added security.

    Things to Consider:

  6. USB Ports: Make sure the Cloudbook you choose has enough USB ports for your needs, like connecting external drives or other accessories.
  7. Intel Processor: Opting for a Cloudbook with an Intel processor is a good choice as it provides reliability and performance for basic tasks.
  8. Ethernet Port: Having an Ethernet port gives you the option to connect directly to a router for a more stable internet connection, but it's not essential if you plan to use Wi-Fi.

    Recommendations:

  9. Research Options: Look for Cloudbooks with the specs you need and read reviews to ensure they meet your requirements.
  10. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the cloud services you plan to use, like Google and its apps, work seamlessly on the Cloudbook you choose.
  11. User-Friendly Interface: Cloudbooks often have a simpler interface compared to traditional laptops, which may be more suitable for older users. Overall, a Cloudbook can be a great choice for your needs, providing a more straightforward and hassle-free computing experience. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance in choosing a Cloudbook, feel free to ask!
