I use an Esata external drive which Win 7 has not difficulty mounting from the Express Card Adapter that plugs into the PCI port. When I click to remove the device or the adapter the "Safe to Remove Device" pops up but it immediately remounts after. Is there a solution to this or an HP driver issue. This does not occur when I remove Flash Drives or use the USB cable for the same external drive. Thanks.

Solution
It seems like you're encountering a specific issue with your eSATA external drive connected through an Express Card Adapter on Windows 7. The problem you described, where the device immediately remounts after attempting to safely remove it, can be quite frustrating. This behavior might not occur with other devices like flash drives or when using the USB connection with the same external drive. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Update Drivers

  • Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for the eSATA Express Card Adapter and the external drive. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause such issues.

    2. Device Manager Settings

    • Check the settings in Device Manager for both the eSATA Express Card Adapter and the external drive.
    • Right-click on the device in Device Manager, go to Properties, and navigate to the Policies tab. Ensure that the "Optimize for quick removal" option is selected for the external drive.

    3. Disable Write Caching

    • You can try disabling the write caching feature for the external drive. This can sometimes prevent the drive from remounting after being safely removed.
    • Go to Device Manager, right-click on the external drive, select Properties, navigate to the Policies tab, and uncheck the option for "Enable write caching on the device."

    4. Safely Remove Hardware

    • Instead of using the system tray icon to safely remove the device, try using the "Safely Remove Hardware" tool directly from the Control Panel.
    • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager, right-click on the external drive, and select "Eject" or "Safely Remove."

    5. Explore BIOS Settings

[]Check if there are any relevant settings in the system BIOS related to eSATA or external devices. Adjusting these settings might help resolve the issue.

    6. Test with Different Devices

    [
]Test the eSATA Express Card Adapter with another external drive to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to the adapter or the external drive.

    7. Manufacturer Support

  • If none of the above solutions work, consider reaching out to the manufacturer of the eSATA Express Card Adapter or the external drive for further assistance. They might have specific drivers or firmware updates that can address this issue. By following these steps, you can troubleshoot the problem of your eSATA external drive remounting after attempting to safely remove it on Windows 7. If you continue to experience issues, seeking support from the manufacturer or an IT professional might be necessary.
