Hi,

I've seen a couple of similar questions have been asked but as yet I don't have an answer.

I have got EXTREMELY slow/non existent file transfer speeds between my USB external hard drive/pen drives and my HDD.

I have no problem at all copying, moving files from/to my Android phone. That works a charm.

Initially when connecting the external hard drive, it takes an age to even load up and slows the whole system down.

Both the pen drives and the hard drive work fine on other computers (not tried on another Windows 7 computer).

I've done numerous checks for updates and I'm as certain as I can be that the USB drivers are the most up to date (the computer was only built around 5 months ago and has always had this problem)

I have tried using 3rd party software for file transfer but this runs into the same errors.

I am running:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Service Pack 1
I'm not sure what technical specifications are needed to help with this so just shout and i'll get them to you.

Thanks!

Check Power Management Settings: - Make sure that your USB ports are not set to power-saving mode. Disable any power-saving settings for USB ports in the Device Manager. 4. Disable Antivirus/Firewall: - Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software to see if they are causing the slowdown during file transfers. 5. Disk Cleanup: - Perform a disk cleanup on your system to free up space and optimize the hard drive's performance. 6. Run Hardware Troubleshooter: - Use the built-in Windows hardware troubleshooter to identify and fix any hardware-related issues. 7. Check for Disk Errors: - Run a disk checking tool like CHKDSK to scan and fix any errors on your hard drive. 8. Change Drive Policies: - Adjust the write-caching policy for your external hard drive. Go to Device Manager, find your external drive, go to Properties, and then Policies tab to make changes. 9. Test in Safe Mode: - Boot your computer into Safe Mode and check if the file transfer speeds improve. This helps in ruling out any third-party software conflicts. 10. Update Windows and Drivers: - Ensure that your Windows 7 system is fully updated with the latest updates and patches from Microsoft. Try these steps and see if they improve the file transfer speeds between your external drives and HDD. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
