Windows 7 Fax modem dialtone

Prior to installing Windows 7 I was able to hear the fax modem on the pc speaker. I also put a new MoBo in. Maybe no speaker on it. How can I check without opening the case? If there is pc speaker how do I get it to make the telephone sounds? If not, can I make the sounds on my regular speakers? I feel better when I know the modem is dialing.

have you checked the fax modems software settings as sometimes there is a check box somewhere that will allow you to hear the ring tone through your speakers... As you have fitted a new mobo this may have been turned off by default? If not, it may just be the case that the new mobo works slightly differently than the last (unless it's the same model of course).
