It seems that Vista will not recognize my external hard drive, a Lacie Bigdisk.
It says that I'm missing a driver, but the thing is, it never required a driver in Windows 2000, or XP.

My question is, Is it possible to use a generic driver for this, or do I just have to wait for Lacie to create a driver for it?

My Big Disk will not mount or is not detected. The System Profiler on my Mac or Device Manager on Windows lists it as unknown with the name TUSB6250 Boot Device.

Please try the following:

# Disconnect all cables connected to the drive.
# Connect the power cable to the drive.
# Connect the USB-cable. First to the drive. Then to the computer.

If the drive is detected correctly the problem was probably caused by improper shutdown or un-mount (unplugging the cable without dismounting first, etc.). When this has happened, the USB-interface needs to reset itself properly. After this, reconnection should be no problem.
your fix worked like a charm. Thank you so much. I unplugged all of the cables and inserted the power first and then the USB (back of drive first and them to the computer) and I was able to get my machine to recognize my Lacie drive. thanks again - this was a life saver

Thank Ghu! I tried to move a couple of these drives to my new Vista box and first got this problem with both of them. Then one of them 'mysteriously' started working. Gave up and tried to move them back to the XP system they were on originally and got the same problem! Was just about to the point of trying to figure out how to take them apart to move drives from one to the other to recover data.

Thanks much!

Thanks for the cable sequence. I have restarted the computer and the hard drive several times but did not disconnect the cables. Funny this is I used this same harddrive for three days last week without any problems. It seems I have problems after getting any updates.

Thanks, again. Anna:)
