While typing a message in gmail or typing in Word, my cursor jumps randomly so that whatever I was typing ends up in a different place than intended. Someone else I know who just switched from XP has the same problem. I'm thinking this happened periodically when I was using Vista as well.
Does anyone know the cause of this problem or more importantly have a fix? I have all the latest MS updates and mouse software updates.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

- Ensure that you have the latest mouse drivers installed. Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers can cause cursor jumping issues.
- Go to your computer's mouse settings and adjust the sensitivity or acceleration settings to see if it helps with the cursor jumping.
- Some software applications or background processes can interfere with the cursor movement. Try closing unnecessary applications to see if the issue persists.
- In Windows settings, disable the "Enhance pointer precision" option to see if it makes a difference in the cursor behavior.
- Make sure there is no external interference causing the cursor to jump, such as wireless devices or a faulty mouse.
- Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, system updates can include fixes for cursor-related issues.
- Check your keyboard settings to ensure that there are no key combinations or shortcuts that may be causing the cursor to move unexpectedly.
- If the issue persists, consider testing with a different mouse or keyboard to determine if the problem lies with the hardware.
Additional Note:
- Since you mentioned that this issue occurred in previous Windows versions like XP and Vista, it might be worthwhile to check for any compatibility issues with your current Windows version. Try these steps to see if they resolve the cursor jumping issue you are experiencing. If the problem persists, further troubleshooting may be needed to identify the root cause.
