Hi..
I've been trying to format a RW cd throught the usual right click format option in my DVD/CD- RW (E): drive but I notice both format options (quick format & create and MS-DOS startup disk)are greyed out _unlike what used to be accessable in my previous WinXP OS.

the command dose run for a while ...gives the usual format complete result message....but nothing is actually done..

Dose this have to do with the account type (user or admin), ...I check on outdated drive possibiltiy but windows tells me I'm uptodate on this regard .....I'd greatefully welcome any suggestions....thanks

It seems like you are encountering issues with formatting a CD on your Windows system. The greyed-out format options could be due to various reasons, such as permissions, driver compatibility, or other system settings. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    []Check Device Manager:
    • Confirm that the CD/DVD drive is detected in Device Manager without any errors.
    • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager. Look for the CD/DVD drive under "DVD/CD-ROM drives." If there's a yellow exclamation mark beside it, there might be a driver issue.
    [
    ]Update or Reinstall Drivers:
    • Update the drivers for your optical drive. Right-click on the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and select "Update driver."
    []Check Compatibility Mode:
    • Sometimes running applications in compatibility mode can help. Right-click on the application (in this case, the format tool), go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, try running it in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows.
    [
    ]Check Disk Management:
    • Open Disk Management by pressing Windows key + X and selecting Disk Management. Check if the CD-RW disc is recognized here. You might be able to format it from Disk Management.
    []Third-Party Tools:
    • Consider using third-party tools like ImgBurn or CDBurnerXP to format the CD if the built-in Windows format tool continues to have issues.
    [
    ]Check Group Policy Settings:
    • Group Policy settings might restrict formatting of certain drives. Check Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) if any policies are affecting drive formatting.

      Additional Note:

      • Windows 10 might handle CD/DVD drives differently than Windows XP, so some features may have changed or been updated.
      • Ensure that your user account has the necessary permissions to perform formatting operations on the drive.
Try these steps and see if they help in resolving the CD formatting issue. If the problem persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
