Team Meeting for May 23, 2014: Addressing Outstanding Issues to Improve Quality of Service

What is WindowsForum.com?

WindowsForum.com is one of the Internet's most important web assets. With an open, non-partisan community, operating independently, and separate from Microsoft, members retain creative control and authorship of their messages. The forum community allows technology enthusiasts from around the world to convene in public, have their questions prioritized, and answered. For nearly a decade, WindowsForum.com has existed in the form of winvistaforums.com, windows7forums.com, and windows8forums.com. Following am ambitious project to merge these sites, WindowsForum.com lives on as one large community.

About the meeting:

In this meeting, forum managers Ross Cameron (@kemical), Pat Cooke (@patcooke), Mike Fara (@Mike), and Joe Stackhouse (@Josephur) discuss solutions to a growing number of issues.

Why?

As part of our forum moderation rules, we are obliged to hold at least two general staff meetings per year. Whenever possible, we make these meetings public, in order to illicit feedback and provide a general idea of what our priorities are. While many more meetings are held throughout the year, our two official meetings are usually transparent, candid discussions, and designed to involve our members and viewers in a unique way.

As our community continued to grow, we continue to discuss the new challenges facing the forums, our members, and our team. We continue to look for ways to improve the user experience, address issues of great importance we face, and allow our viewers and members to take an active role in this process.

Specifics:

In this meeting we discuss trademark issues related to our mobile applications, a tutorial working group, the state of personal computers with Windows vs. competing operating systems, audience retention, and maladies/censorship related to the Google AdSense and Webmaster Tools 'community guidelines', and a potential loss of active members.

While some of our administrators, moderators, and members continue to be recognized by Microsoft Corporation for their contributions to the greater Windows Community, and remain active in such programs, WindowsForum.com is not owned or operated by Microsoft Corporation.

Issues of contention:

Microsoft Windows
Windows 8
Windows 7
Windows XP
Group Meeting
WindowsForum.com
Podcast
Tutorials
Working Group
Google AdSense
Censorship
Operating Systems
Forums
Proprietary software
Open Source (particularly LAMP)

You guys talked a lot about TUTORIALS which seems to be an important ingredient to websites like this forum. I suggest that you put emphasis on it by making it readily visible when someone comes to this forum. The top headings on this forum are very irrelevant to what people come here for (Mark Forums Read, Watched Forums, etc. --- should be placed somewhere else). I suggest that these headings be changed to what people wants to see right away and point them to places of their interest. Instead of "list format" for forums (Windows 8 Forums, Windows 7 Forums, etc.) like what you have now, it should be tabbed like in the image below. People hate scrolling down to find what they want. Give it to them when they open up this site.

Also, please get rid of the "Live Stream" and make it a static page.

Thank you.

Cheers!

This is a nice idea and requires a submission system, as well as a rating system. We may look at our Downloads "Resource Manager" as one way of doing it. This will be a big overhaul, so we will start off small. This kind of change, though, is feasible. Although I do not think we can specifically make it look exactly like this. Thanks for your feedback, @badrobot.

It's just an idea. The final look will all be up to what the platform can offer. The tab system maybe quite a work (or just rename and re-link the existing tabs) but all of the contents will just be linked to the existing ones.

Cheers!

The first time I quit was because of you Mike and nothing else....and your lame ass excuses of how you (don't) handle anything.
