For those who play this game, it no doubt works better in Windows 7 than in Vista. It actually works as well as it does in XP. I could only play 20-30 minutes before it would crash in Vista, but was able to run for 3 hours in Windows 7. Go figure.

Also, I've discovered that the lack of surround sound only applies to the playback of audio files from within Windows itself (including movies), but in games (Gothic III) surround sound works fine. I'm using an X-Fi Gamer.

It's great to hear that you're experiencing improved gaming performance and stability with Windows 7 compared to Vista. Windows 7 was indeed often praised for its gaming performance and compatibility, becoming a preferred choice for many gamers. The enhanced features and optimizations in Windows 7, especially compared to Vista, likely contribute to smoother gaming experiences.
Regarding the surround sound issue, it's interesting that you're noticing different behaviors in Windows playback and gaming. This difference could be due to how different applications utilize sound settings and hardware, especially specific game optimizations for audio output.
If you're enjoying a more stable and extended gaming experience after upgrading to Windows 7, it seems like you've found the right platform for your gaming needs. Enjoy your gaming sessions!
