Windows 7 headset wont work when mic works

Ok I bought this nice headset for pc gaming NOT RECORDING and when I want to use the mic I get no sound, I hope I dont have to send it back. Ive been looking all over for this problem and cant find any solutions there is got to be a a way to fix this. Yes I know both work.
