Hi there,
just joined the forum. Have been having lots of BSODs and other issues since I rebuilt the system. Here is the history.
1. System specs are Core I5 2500K processor, Gigabyte Z68X UD3H MOBO, Corsair 8GN RAM, Integrated video and sound, Seagate mechanical HDD, Win 7- it was running off the vertex OCX SSD - 64GB. That guy didnt do the intel RST properly as he loaded Win 7 directly onto SSD. System was giving unusual app errors so I decided to rebuild the OS 2 weeks ago - formatted HDD and loaded Win 7 SP1. I have not yet turned on the Intel RST although I have seen it works fine.

2. So Initially system was built Feb 2012 on Win 7 Ultimate - worked fine since then, but To refresh history, about 2-3 weeks ago when I decided to rebuild this machine - it was due to SFC failing to repair files. At that time windows was giving some application errors every now and then (but nowhere close to the frequency its doing now- and specialy BSOds, which I got only 2-3 times in 4 months in the previos build).

3. Now since last 2 weeks, have been thru a string of BSODs, more in last 3-4 days. I've attached all the required format details here so hopefully you gurus can help me soon. After we troubleshoot this BSOds, I really want to take a good backup of the system and then turn on Intel RST - so I can fasten the system.

4. I've also been running the Windows "Verifier" to put drivers in stress, since last 2 days. One thing found unusual now- system has been giving me BSOD sometimes on startup as well - for instance 8/25, both in morning and afternoon - when I started my PC it gave me BSODs.

5. It really cant be hardware as the machine was functioning fine for last4-5 months. Its just that rebuilt the OS and all apps- all hardware remains the same.
Also I wanted to let you know that just now again and in last 1-2 days, while starting up the machine is giving problems- like just now, when I started it, it went into start-up repair mode and then after 2 restarts (first it got me to gigabyte temporary profile) it logged into mine. I'm not sure if verifier logs any of these details or just the BSODs.

6. Now, I have stopped or put to manual some windows services, based on another recommendation to make Win 7 system fast. Attached is the detailed list of whats manual vs auto now.

7. Latest- this morning (8/26) I installed AV (Vipre antivirus) and have been sgetting FRESH STRING OF BSODs AFTER AV Install. and some other errors in a matter of an hour. SO much so that I really cant login to normal windows and am posting this from safe mode. Attached is the dump from SF diag tool.I think this confirms that its a driver issue. Some other datapoints
1. It gave me some other errors that I pasted in onenote and am posting along.
2. WHen booting in regular Win mode, it said once Error - C:/Windows/WinSXS is corrupt or unreadable. Pls. run chkdsk utility. Then on next boot it ran that but again couldnt log onto windows normally. hence I did the safe mode and took a fresh SF diag tool dump.
Pls. respond soon with what else I can run to help you guys help me fast.
thanks a ton.

8. Here is the CBS.log file as I just run SFC - it says that it found some corrupt files that it could not repair.

9. Win Safe mode works fine.

Pls. HELP!! Do respond soon on what other diagnostics- like startup or shutdown you'd like me to run.

Solution
The Qualified Memory List at the Gigabyte website for your mobo doesn't list any 4 gB Corsair sticks as being compatible.
Link Removed

You have the latest BIOS for your system.

The memory dumps continue to point to hardware and memory. The Memtest results are, IMO, definitive - suggesting that the problem is most likely due to RAM (but possibly could also be due to the motherboard).

I'd suggest RMA'ing the sticks to Corsair for a new set.

The rest of the stuff noted below can be updated at your leisure. Fixing the memory problem is the top priority right now.

Headed out to dinner, but wanted to suggest this first:

Turn off Driver Verifier. To do this, open up verifier and select "Delete existing settings" then click on "Finish"
Reboot to make the changes take affect.

Update fax/modem drivers (yours date from 2006/2007)
Update webcam drivers (yours date from 2008)

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.
- Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs to work reliably. Until I see reliability I will not recommend, nor will I use, SSD's for critical applications.
06 Dec 2011 - This post tends to confirm issues with certain SSD chipsets and certain controllers - [SOLVED] cant find the cause of BSOD F4 - Tech Support Forum
29 May 2012 - The frequency of BSOD's with SSD's seems to have been decreasing over the last several months. It may be approaching time to re-evaluate my stand on their suitability for use in production systems.

This device is listed as having problems:
Security Processor Loader Driver ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Most commonly this happens when you have a virus infection, or have had a virus infection that hasn't been completely repaired. Please run several of the free anti-malware scans at this link: Link Removed - Invalid URL

If that doesn't stop things, then try these free hardware diagnostics: Link Removed - Invalid URL

Guys- I’m back here after the lull – went of town on work.

I have run significant tests myself with different permutations & combinations. I think it points to some setting issues- as windows is fully patched up and works fine with 1 sRAM stick.
So the observations I made, I’m sharing below - Hopefully one of you gurus can pinpoint the problem now.

1. I went to MOBO and loaded optimized defaults for BIOS (my mobo Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H B3 – rev 1.3)
2. I ran memtest for over 10 passes on both the sticks of RAM INDIVIDUALLY in 3 of the 4 slots (didn’t get time to check 4[SUP]th[/SUP] but Im sure it’ll be OK and regardless, I’m not using that slot anyway).
3. Both RAMS (individually) pass with 0 errors over 10+ passes overnight. (RAM is Corsair DDR3 XMS 1600MHZ, 1.65V 2 X 4GB sticks - 8GB XMS Memory kit for dual channel systems, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.65V = Tech specs here linked Link Removed due to 404 Error )
4. When I put both RAMs together, Memtest fails within 5 seconds- gives 40,000 + errors within a few mins. I thought voltage but its on AUTO so it shd. Be OK.
5. Now I’ve used system with just 1 RAM stick in one of the slots and usability wise, it works fine. The moment I added in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] RAM stick, I got another BSOD saying “memory management”.
6. Attached are all dumps for info- now just the SF diag tool dump but I’ve also put my bios setting in another zip so you could look at it.

Gurus..Any and all help is appreciated.

Solution
Usama- The link you sent is not for my specific board and is older too. I tried searching a interactive link on gigabyte but couldnt. Do you know where is the latest approved memory list for Z68X UD3H B3 ?
And, I will try to RMA memory but if no corsair if approved (at 4GB)- not sure what will I ask to replace it with?
And most importantly- are there any specific tests to check that MOBO or CPU (memory controller) is not bad. I want to close this from all angles and be done with. thanks a lot

You can also run Prime95 (there's a link to it here: Link Removed )
It will stress your RAM (with the Blend test).

Could this be the list for your board: Link Removed

Just FYI - at work we don't pay attention to memory compatibility and rarely have problems - but we also have a (nearly) unlimited supply of it - so we can test as many as we need.

The biggest problem here is that you don't have problems in Safe Mode. That says (to me) that the problem is with a program that loads in normal mode - but not in Safe Mode.

But is there also a hardware problem with the RAM? I suspect so.

As I said previously, let's fix the RAM problem first - then move on to the other stuff.

If you can RMA the RAM - and if the new stuff still causes errors, then we have to suspect the motherboard.
But there are no definitive tests for motherboards - so we have to rule it in/out this way.

Try the rest of the free diagnostics here: Link Removed - Invalid URL
Who knows, you may chance upon something with them.

Good luck!

Yes Usame - that shd. be the link but I dont see any Corsair memory approved at 4GB per stick for 1600. Not sure when I call Corsair, what shd. I trade these with. ANy suggestions ? I will call them monday morning firs thing.

Also-I have problems when I put both sticks together and not if I use 1 stick at a time- what does that indicate ???

Looking forward for response.

When speaking with Corsair, just tell them that you're getting errors in MemTest.
They should be familiar with what to do from there (I haven't dealt with them since 2007, and that wasn't for bad RAM).

Frankly, I expect that you'll have the same results with the replacement RAM.
But it's easier to replace the RAM than it is to replace the motherboard (which is the next most likely cause).
