Windows 8 High idle cpu usage?

G'day everyone,

Just a quick question. I've noticed that when I leave my pc for some time and the screen savers come on, then the screens go blank (my machine doesn't sleep or hibernate) when I use the pc again I can see that during the time the monitors had turned off, the CPU usage was at or above 50% - any ideas why?

When I use the computer after that, watching movies, photoshop etc the cpu usage is much less than that!

Dean have you checked your power settings via the control panel? You'll see various options regarding monitor, HDD and so on. I think by default the monitor powers down after 10 minutes or so.

As for the high cpu usage. Check the event viewer to see if anything untoward is happening and I'd also run a scan from the app found here:
