The Homegroup on my new Win 7 laptop and existing PC works fine, but only after I've been through the Homegroup troubleshooter to refresh the network.

After either the PC or laptop is turned off (and then on again, obviously!), I have to go through the troubleshooter again before the Homegroup libraries appears.

Not the end of the world, just inconvenient, any ideas?

Cheers,
Bernie

It seems like you are facing an inconvenience with your Homegroup setup on your Windows 7 laptop and existing PC. The need to go through the Homegroup troubleshooter each time you turn off and on your devices can be frustrating. Here are a few suggestions to address this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Discovery Settings:
    • Ensure that Network Discovery is turned on for both your Windows 7 laptop and existing PC. This setting allows your devices to see each other on the network.
    • To check this setting, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings, and make sure that Network Discovery is enabled.

    []Verify Homegroup Passwords:
    • Confirm that the Homegroup passwords on both devices match. If not, you may need to rejoin the Homegroup with the correct password.
    [
    ]Reset Homegroup:
    • Try resetting the Homegroup completely on both devices and create a new Homegroup. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
    []Update Network Drivers:
    • Ensure that the network drivers on both devices are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause network connectivity issues.
    [
    ]Disable Sleep Mode:
    • Try disabling sleep mode on your devices to see if the issue persists after they wake from sleep or hibernation.
    []Check Firewall Settings:
    • Make sure that the firewall settings on both devices are not blocking Homegroup communications. You may need to allow Homegroup through the firewall settings.
    [
    ]Restart Network Services:
    • Occasionally, restarting network-related services can help resolve connectivity issues. You can do this by opening Command Prompt as an administrator and running the following commands:
      Code:
net stop p2pimsvc net start p2pimsvc
By following these steps, you may be able to troubleshoot and resolve the inconvenience you are experiencing with your Homegroup setup. Let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any specific error messages during this process.
