I hope this is what you mean.

The links are pointers to the programs executable file.

There are mearly shortcuts.

They are all over the place. Open Windows Explorer and go to your C: driver and search for *.lnk

Some are more general, available to everyone, some are specific for each user.

Some are your "jump list"

Change and modify the default number of frequently used or recent items in the Windows 7 Jump List
  1. Right click on Start button.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click on Customize button.
  4. Under the “Start menu sizeâ€Â￾ section at the bottom of the “Customize Start Menuâ€Â￾ dialog, set a new value for Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists option.
You can right click on those and remove them also.

And then there the programs that are "pinned"

You can right click on them and select properties and check General / Location

thanks

What I would like to do is to add/delete the LNKs/Shortcuts for the items on the left of the start menu (not ALL PROGRAMS list - I know where those are).

Where can I find them to do that??????

Those are recent or most current programs

Right click on the Start menu and select Properties / Start Menu and uncheck the two privacy option boxes...

Look under customize for options you can add or remove from the RIGHT side of the Start Menu

Left click start menu. Right click All Programs. Left click Open All Users.

If you want to add to the left hand side you can pin them to start menu. Just drag them into the start menu.

thanks loathe

That does almost exactly what I wanted to do.
I guess being able to easily order them it too much to ask -
It seems the only way to do it is to unpin all then readd them in the order desired.
