Windows 7 How much space sould win 7 install take up?

I have recently done a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate and it says that it has taken up nearly 35gb on my hd? Is this normal? i have a loptop with 100gb hd and checked it straight after install and it said i only had 65bg left

A clean install of Windows 7 requires 16 GB of space, but typically only uses 8 GB.

A fresh install , Is this W7 the original operating system on your laptop or did you installed over prior version of windows ( ex. xp or vista ) ? I would do a clean install and make sure to delete your partition and recreate a new partition for W7 . See how that goes . If you have either xp or vista installed originally on the laptop check beforehand if its safe to delete the partition and install W7
