Just purchased new computer with vista already installed. The only problem I'm having is that the sound is much lower. We are using the same speakers-nothing fancy-just 2 speakers that came with our previous Compaq. I have checked everything-everything is up to '100' or at the max. Any advice?

Solution
make sure the sound drivers are installed correctly, see if there are any updates to the driver. Also, get rid of the speakers. Go to staples and buy a decent speaker system for around $30. You can get a sub and everything for cheap. New speakers is your safest option.

Look to see if there is an updated driver from either Compaq's website or more likely the actual vendor that makes the soundcard.

audio

I have a ECS 648a MB w/onboard sound. Vista didn't load the SiS7012 drivers. I downloaded C-Media 3d audio and now I have a fully functional 3d audio program with multiple sound options.

Try it.
