Hello! I have Windows 7 64-bit and lately the internet has been EXTREMELY slow.
I was downloading at a maximum speed of 69kbs! I uninstalled AVG and I got it to download at 199-207 kbs. The thing is that in my other laptop running Windows XP I download at around 370kbs or more, but never less than 360kbs. I also unchecked a few things in msconfig in the boot and services tabs.
I really don't know what to do from now on or what the issue might be.

Also, this is WiFi connection... and I'm pretty sure the WLAN card on this laptop is better than the old ones. The drivers are up to date too.
Any help will be extremely appreciated!!

It sounds like you're experiencing a significant slowdown in internet speeds on your Windows 7 64-bit laptop. Slow internet speeds can be quite frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve the situation. Here are some recommendations:

Troubleshooting Steps for Slow Internet Speed on Windows 7:

  1. Check Internet Speed:
    • Perform an internet speed test to accurately measure your current download and upload speeds. Websites like Ookla's Speedtest (speedtest.net) or Fast.com can provide this information.
    []Restart Your Router and Modem:
    • Sometimes, simple resets can improve internet speeds. Power off your router and modem, wait for a minute, then turn them back...

    ]Check Other Devices:
    • Verify if other devices on the same network are experiencing slow speeds. This helps determine if the issue is isolated to your Windows 7 laptop or the network itself.
    []Check for Interference:
    • Wireless connections can be affected by interference from other devices. Ensure that no electronic devices are causing interference with your Wi-Fi signal.
    [
    ]Update Network Drivers:
    • Even if you believe your drivers are up to date, it's worth double-checking and ensuring that the latest drivers for your WLAN card are installed.
    []Malware and Security Software:
    • Ensure your system is free from malware by running a full antivirus scan. Consider reinstalling your antivirus software to rule out any conflicts.
    [
    ]Disable Unnecessary Programs:
    • In addition to what you've already unchecked in msconfig, check the Task Manager for any background programs consuming network resources unnecessarily.
    []DNS Settings:
    • Try changing your DNS settings to a public DNS like Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4) or Cloudflare's (1.1.1.1) to see if it improves your speeds.
    [
    ]Network Troubleshooter:
    • Run the built-in Network Troubleshooter in Windows. This tool can help diagnose and fix common networking issues.
  2. Hardware Check:
    • Check the physical condition of your WLAN card and ensure there are no hardware issues affecting its performance. By following these steps, you should be able to pinpoint the cause of your slow internet speeds on your Windows 7 machine and hopefully resolve the issue. If the problem persists, additional troubleshooting may be necessary.
