Hi,

I'm having this problem for a few weeks now and I can't seem to fix it.
Every time I restart / install updates (and restart) my computer my internet connection is gone.
I'm on a PC with LAN only, so that's wierd anyway.
Because of this I can't update my Windows via Windows Update because it needs to restart every time.
And I can't install Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition because it needs to restart during the installation.

I'm using NVidia Network Controller (nForce) but I can't get the type of the product. I downloaded the latest drivers for the nForce 9 series.
Every time I restart I need to do a system restore wich causes the problem that the updates are uninstalled (and Visual Studio).

Can anyone please help me with this extremely frustrating problem?

Thanks in advance,
Cas Cornelissen

It seems like you're facing a persistent issue with your internet connection dropping every time you restart your computer, which is causing problems with Windows updates and software installations like Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Update Network Drivers:
    • Since you mentioned using the NVidia Network Controller (nForce), make sure you have the latest drivers installed for the nForce 9 series. However, if you are unsure about the exact model of your network controller, you could check in Device Manager for more information.

    []Check Network Adapter Settings:
    • Verify that your LAN settings are correct. Sometimes, network adapter settings can cause connectivity issues. Check for any misconfigurations.
    [
    ]Windows Update Troubleshooter:
    • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update.
      • Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix any issues related to Windows Update.
    []Check Network Configuration:
    • Ensure that your network settings are configured correctly. Check for any proxy settings or VPN configurations that might interfere with your connection.
    [
    ]Restart in Safe Mode:
    • Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode and see if you encounter the same issue. If the problem doesn't occur in Safe Mode, it could indicate a software conflict causing the network disruption.
    []Disable Windows Fast Startup:
    • Fast Startup can sometimes interfere with network connections after a restart. Disable Fast Startup:
      • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)."
    [
]Perform System File Checker (SFC) Scan:
    • Run an SFC scan to check for corrupted system files that might be impacting your network connection:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow.
    []Check for Malware:
    • Malware can sometimes disrupt network connections. Run a thorough scan using Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program to check for any infections.
    [
    ]Contact NVidia Support:
    • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to NVidia support for assistance with your network controller and drivers.

      Additional Suggestions:

      • Before performing any major changes, consider backing up your important data to prevent data loss.
      • Keep track of any error messages or specific behaviors that occur when the internet connection drops.
      • If all else fails, consider seeking help from a professional technician or IT support specialist for a more in-depth analysis and resolution.
Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance or if you encounter any specific errors along the way.
