Microsoft has recently enhanced Copilot in Excel, introducing advanced context awareness to streamline data analysis. This upgrade allows users to interact with their spreadsheets more intuitively, eliminating the need for manual data selection. By combining cell signals with chat history, Copilot can now infer user intent more accurately, enabling commands like "Show me insights about the data I was just analyzing" or "Sort the table in the top-right" to function seamlessly. To build user trust, Copilot highlights the data it utilizes, allowing for further refinement and ensuring precise responses. These features are available on the web and specific desktop versions:
  • Windows: Version 2505 (Build 18623.20058)
  • Mac: Version 16.95 (Build 2506.3090)
The visual highlighting feature is also accessible on:
  • Windows: Version 2505 (Build 18705.20000)
  • Mac: Version 16.96 (Build 2506.4070)
Microsoft encourages users to provide feedback through the thumbs up/down icons at the bottom of Copilot response cards.
This development is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to integrate Copilot across its suite of applications, enhancing productivity and user experience. By making Copilot more context-aware, Excel users can expect a more efficient and intuitive workflow, reducing the time spent on manual data manipulation and focusing more on deriving meaningful insights.
