Microsoft has announced that it will cease introducing new features to its Office applications on Windows 10 starting in August 2026. This decision aligns with the company's broader strategy to phase out support for Windows 10, which is scheduled to reach its end of support on October 14, 2025.
Key Dates and Channels Affected:
  • August 2026: Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, along with business users on the Current Channel, will stop receiving new feature updates.
  • October 13, 2026: Users on the Monthly Enterprise Channel will see the cessation of new features.
  • January 12, 2027: The Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel will receive its final feature update.
Despite the halt in feature updates, Microsoft has committed to providing security updates for Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 until October 10, 2028. This extension aims to maintain security while users transition to Windows 11.
It's important to note that while the Office applications will continue to function on Windows 10 post these dates, they will not benefit from new functionalities or improvements. Users seeking the latest features and enhancements in Microsoft 365 will need to upgrade to Windows 11.
This phased approach underscores Microsoft's emphasis on encouraging users to adopt Windows 11 to ensure they have access to the most up-to-date features and security measures.
