Hi,

Clean install yesterday of Home Premium 64 bit upgrade. Dual Booting with XP Pro. Never had Vista.

None of the automatic power save features seem ti be working in Windows 7.

In XP Pro I have the monitor turning off after 10 minutes - works fine.

In 7, nothing - monitor never turns off, computer never goes to sleep.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P MB, 4GB RAM, Intel Q9550 @3.4 GHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650, Dell 2005 FPW LCD monitor.

Device manager looks fine, no exclamation points.

It seems there is no driver for my actual monitor model so it is using "Generic PnP Monitor".

I tried different settings in Power Options and nothing works.

Have tried full shutdown including turning off the power supply - same.

If I manually select Sleep from the start menu, the computer sleeps fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank You,

--Mark--

Hello Mark, It seems like you are facing issues with the power saving features in Windows 7, particularly with the monitor not turning off and the computer not going to sleep automatically. Here are some steps and suggestions you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue: 1. Update Drivers: - Ensure that all your drivers are up-to-date, especially the graphics card driver. Visit the Gigabyte website for your motherboard model and the AMD website for your Radeon HD 4650 graphics card to download and install the latest drivers compatible with Windows 7. 2. Monitor Driver: - While Windows 7 is using the "Generic PnP Monitor" driver, it's possible that this driver might not support power-saving features specific to your Dell 2005 FPW LCD monitor. Check if Dell provides any specific drivers or monitor management software for your model that might help with power-saving functions. 3. BIOS Settings: - Access your motherboard's BIOS settings and check if there are any options related to power management. Make sure that power-saving features are enabled in the BIOS. 4. Power Options: - Double-check the power plan settings in Windows 7. Try creating a custom power plan with more aggressive power-saving settings, such as turning off the display after a shorter period and putting the computer to sleep sooner. 5. Power Troubleshooter: - Run the Power Troubleshooter in Windows 7 to automatically diagnose and fix power settings-related issues. To access it, go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > System and Security > Power. 6. Hardware Compatibility Check: - Verify that all your hardware components are fully compatible with Windows 7. Incompatibility with certain hardware components can sometimes lead to issues with power management features. 7. Sleep Study: - Consider using the built-in Sleep Study tool in Windows 7 to analyze the sleep behavior of your system. This tool can provide detailed information on what's preventing your computer from going to sleep automatically. By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the power-saving issues you are experiencing with Windows 7. If the issue persists, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
