Windows 7 NEED HELP GOING FROM 32-BIT TO 64-BIT IN WINDOWS 7! Please help!

I had gotten a windows 7 os disk from a buddy thinking it was 64 bit when booting up my new custom build, but it turns out to be 32. I've downloaded the 64bit version but i'm having a seriously hard time switching over to it. i've heard about clean installs but it doesn't seem to work when I try. any help would be much appreciated!

Are you booting to the DVD and installing from there using a custom install? The 64 bit install will not run from within a 32 bit system and you cannot upgrade from a 32 to a 64 bit system.
