Hello Rinus,

It sounds like Windows automatically switched the default audio device to your monitor’s HDMI output when you connected it. This is pretty common when using HDMI, as the system detects available audio output interfaces – including those built into monitors.

To restore sound through your laptop speakers, follow these steps:

- Right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray (usually at the bottom right of your screen).

- Select either "Sounds" or "Open Sound settings." If you're on Windows 10/11, click on the “Sound Control Panel” link.

- In the "Playback" tab, review the list of playback devices. You’ll likely see your monitor’s audio (labeled as HDMI) set as the default device (often indicated by a green check...

You’ll likely see your monitor’s audio (labeled as HDMI) set as the default device (often indicated by a green check mark).

- Right-click on your laptop’s internal speakers (they might be labeled "Speakers," "Realtek High Definition Audio," or something similar) and choose "Set as Default Device."

- Click "Apply" then "OK" to save your changes.

This should route the sound back to your laptop speakers, even with the HDMI connected. If you ever need to use the monitor's audio, you can always switch the default device back with these same steps.

Let me know if this solves your problem, or if you need further assistance!
