Windows 10 "Open with..." menu not allowing me to select my own programs.

When opening a file not already associated with a program, or using the "Open with..." menu in the context menu, I cannot select my own programs to open the file, as clicking "More apps" or "Try an app on this pc" does nothing. This extremely annoying as I cannot open even an image or a text file, without first opening the program I want to use then selecting the file manually. Any suggestions and help would be very much appreciated.

Edit: Fixed by enabling internet explorer in windows features. If anyone knows a way of getting this to work without doing as such, do tell.
