I need some help with windows 7 pro machines we are adding to our domain.

We are running server 2008, with a policy to set the background image.

We have windows vista machines that display the login background when logged into the domain, but when we login with the windows 7 machines, it displays a black background. when we log out it displays our custom work wallpaper as the logout wallpaper.

I do not think it is a group policy problem on the server (I literally have checked every nook and corner), but a windows 7 problem.

I have searched the MSDN for answers and have been unsuccessful. Does anyone have a clue on what is wrong?

  • Check the local Group Policy settings on one of the affected Windows 7 machines. Sometimes, local policies can override domain policies. [*Registry Settings:
  • Verify the registry settings related to desktop wallpaper. Incorrect settings in the registry can cause issues with displaying the background image correctly.

Potential Solutions:

[*Reset the Wallpaper Settings:
  • Try resetting the wallpaper settings to default on a Windows 7 machine to see if it resolves the issue. [*Refresh Group Policy:
  • Force a Group Policy update on the Windows 7 machines to ensure that the latest policies are applied correctly. [*Check Permissions:
  • Ensure that the user accounts logging into the Windows 7 machines have the necessary permissions to access and display the background image set by the domain policy. [*Update Graphics Drivers:
  • Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Make sure the graphics drivers on the Windows 7 machines are up to date.
  • Desktop Background Service:
  • Check if the "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" service is running on the Windows 7 machines. This service is responsible for managing visual effects.
