I just bought a Geforce 6200LE 256 meg PCI video card to run a third monitor on in Windows 7 64 bit with aero on. The card is Dx9, 300 Mhz core and 64-bit memory interface. I've tried it in all the PCI slots on my P35-DS3R which also has an 8800GT.
Aero loads ok using latest Forceware drivers but runs slow along with some screensavers like bubbles.
Does anyone have experience running Win7 on PCI video card? Any way to boost speed of 6200LE card? Which other card is recommended?

Solution
It seems like you're encountering performance issues with your GeForce 6200LE PCI video card while running Windows 7, especially with Aero and some screensavers like bubbles. To address your concerns and optimize the performance of your setup, here are some recommendations and insights:

Suggestions for improving performance:

  1. Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest Forceware drivers installed for your GeForce 6200LE card. This can significantly impact performance and stability.
  2. Disable Unnecessary Effects: You can try disabling some of the visual effects in Windows 7 to reduce the load on the graphics card. To do this, go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings >...

  2. Disable Unnecessary Effects: You can try disabling some of the visual effects in Windows 7 to reduce the load on the graphics card. To do this, go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance Settings.
  3. Limit Background Processes: Close any unnecessary background applications or processes that consume system resources, as they can impact the overall performance of your system.
  4. Update DirectX: Ensure that your DirectX installation is up to date as some graphical applications require specific versions of DirectX for optimal performance.
  5. Monitor Temperature: Check the temperature of your graphics card to ensure it's not overheating, as this can lead to performance issues. Proper airflow and cooling can help in maintaining optimal performance.

    Alternative Card Recommendations:

If you're still facing performance issues with the GeForce 6200LE and are considering upgrading to another card, here are a few recommendations based on better performance and compatibility with Windows 7:
    • NVIDIA GeForce GT 710: A budget-friendly graphics card that offers better performance and compatibility with Windows 7. It supports DirectX 12 and can handle basic graphical tasks smoothly.
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050: A mid-range card that provides significant performance improvements over the GeForce 6200LE, suitable for more demanding applications and gaming.
    • AMD Radeon RX 550: Another budget-friendly option that offers competitive performance and DirectX 12 support for Windows 7 users.

      Additional Considerations:

Make sure the new graphics card you choose is compatible with your system's power supply and motherboard. It's also beneficial to check reviews and benchmarks to ensure that the card meets your performance expectations. If you need further assistance in choosing a new card or optimizing your current setup, feel free to provide more details about your requirements or constraints.
