Hi Boabab,
have you considered using system restore and going back to when Windows was running as it should?

No kemical, I would rather not do that because it will bring back a lot of the rubbish I've been cleaning out, and some other "improvements" will be lost. Isn't there a Windows standard theme to install? How does playing with "colors" like I did, mess everything up?

If you right click on the desktop, click personalise and then choose a default theme (I'm running win 10 so will look a little different to yours):
