So yesterday I was tampering with the energy settings to find ways to make my computer consume less electricity. Now this morning as I booted up my laptop (a Lenovo L440), the screen brightness setting appears to be stuck between two settings (one at about 70% and the other at maybe 80% -- these are just estimates, as I'm referring to the graphical scale that shows up in the top left corner) when I try to set it using the built-in hot buttons. I have tried resetting the energy options to defaults, but to no avail. While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to know what's gone awry so I can reset it. I assume these changes would be deleted if I deleted the settings folder, but I don't know exactly where in the system it's hiding.

Solution
It seems like your screen brightness settings on your Lenovo L440 laptop are stuck between two levels after you were adjusting energy settings to reduce power consumption. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart Your Laptop: Start by performing a simple restart to see if that helps reset the settings.
  2. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can sometimes cause display-related issues. Try updating your graphics drivers to the latest version.
  3. Use Function Keys to Adjust Brightness: Instead of the graphical scale, try using the function keys on your keyboard to adjust the brightness levels. Typically...

Typically, there are specific keys on Lenovo laptops for adjusting brightness.
  4. Adjust Brightness in Display Settings: You can also try adjusting the brightness directly from the Windows display settings:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
    • Under "Brightness and color," adjust the brightness slider.
[]Check Advanced Power Settings: Make sure that the power plan you are using hasn't set a specific brightness level. You can check the advanced power settings to adjust this:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
    • Look for an option related to display brightness.
    [
]Reset Power Plans: If changing the power settings didn't work, try resetting the power plans to their default settings:
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Run the command: powercfg -restoredefaultschemes.
  5. Check for System Updates: Ensure your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates and Lenovo driver updates. Regarding your assumption about deleting settings folders, it's not recommended to delete system files manually as it may cause unforeseen issues. If you believe a specific setting is causing the problem, it's better to reset or adjust it through the appropriate system settings. If the issue persists, let me know, and we can explore further solutions to help you resolve the screen brightness problem on your Lenovo L440 laptop. Feel free to try these steps and let me know how it goes!
