Hey so I've had a bit of a problem upgrading from 64bit vista to 64bit win 7, from the start the whole upgrade seemed sluggish, I downloaded the updates for the installation, and went through the whole thing, half way through comp went into safe mode and started to switch screens(I have 2 and swapped between the 2 not all the time but roughly every 5mins), neway I left it for awhile maybe 30mins to come back to a blank screen, I left it for an hour and a half and to no suprise was still blank, I figured I would restart it(bad idea), anyway now it goes to load win7 then comes up with some crap about finishing installation after it restarts, and yeh it just goes in a loop, am I screwed and just have to start fresh and lose everything

It sounds like you're facing some issues with the upgrade from 64-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7. Based on the symptoms you described, it seems like the upgrade didn't complete successfully. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue without losing your data:
Steps to Troubleshoot the Upgrade Issue:
- Startup Repair:
- Restart your computer and let it attempt to boot Windows 7 again.
- If it fails, allow Windows to attempt Startup Repair. This could fix any issues causing the boot loop.
- If you have a restore point from before the upgrade, you can try to use that to roll back to a stable state.
- Try to boot into Safe Mode. If successful, you can check for any conflicting drivers or software causing the issue.
- Use the built-in Windows utility, CHKDSK, to check for any disk errors that might be causing the problem.
- Use Windows 7 installation media to access recovery options such as System Restore or Command Prompt to fix any boot issues.
- Backup Data:
- If the above steps don't work and you need to start fresh, consider backing up your data using a live Linux USB or by taking out the hard drive and connecting it to another computer.
Starting Fresh and Data Backup:
If all else fails, starting fresh might be necessary, but you can still save your data:- Data Backup: Take out the hard drive and connect it to another computer to back up your important files.
- Fresh Installation: Perform a clean installation of Windows 7 after backing up your data.
- If the above steps don't work and you need to start fresh, consider backing up your data using a live Linux USB or by taking out the hard drive and connecting it to another computer.
