A friend's computer appears to have Filemaker on it (much to our surprise) but it doesn't show in the list of programs in the start menu or in 'Uninstall programs. Why is this and how can I get it to do so? I have found the exe file and put an icon on the desktop.

Solution

Finding and Uninstalling FileMaker from a Computer

If FileMaker is installed on a computer but not listed in the Start Menu or Programs and Features for uninstallation, here are some steps you can take to address this issue:
  1. Search FileMaker Installation Locations:
    • FileMaker might be installed in a non-standard directory. You can locate the installation folder by checking the FileMaker EXE file properties.
    []Uninstalling FileMaker:
    • Since FileMaker is not found in the list of installed programs, you can manually uninstall it by navigating to the installation folder and looking for an uninstall executable or script. Running this should remove the application from the system.

    ]Check Hidden Programs:
    • Sometimes, certain applications might hide themselves from the Programs list. You can use a third-party uninstaller tool to scan and detect all installed programs on the computer.
    []Using Windows Registry:
    • Be cautious with this method. You can search the Windows Registry for entries related to FileMaker and delete them. However, editing the registry can be risky if not done correctly.

    ]Contacting FileMaker Support:
    • If you are unable to locate a way to uninstall FileMaker or encounter issues during the process, reaching out to FileMaker support for guidance can provide more specific instructions on how to address this situation.
    []Check Startup Programs:
    • FileMaker may also have a startup entry. Check the Startup programs list in Task Manager to see if FileMaker is configured to launch at startup. You can disable it from there.
    [
    ]Third-Party Uninstaller:
    • Consider using third-party uninstaller software that can detect and remove hidden or hard-to-find applications from the system. It's important to proceed with caution when modifying or uninstalling software from a computer, especially when the program isn't easily accessible through standard means.
