I wonder if someone can help? I have been using Win 7 for a while now on my main PC, and Vista on my HTPC (both x64). I have had tightvnc installed on both, as well as a vncviewer on my cellphone. Thia has meant I could login to either PC from my mobile or from work etc. However, I decided to do away with vista yesterday, and installed win 7 on my htpc too. Now I cannot login or out of that machine using either tightvnc, or the norla remote desktop assistance tool. My network works fine though, in and out. I have disabled win firewall, and also ESET. No win defender installed. Can anyone suggest anything I may have missed which is blocking these sorts of connections?

Verify Remote Desktop Services: - Make sure that the Remote Desktop Services are running on the Windows 7 machine. - Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and look for the "Remote Desktop Services" and "Remote Desktop Configuration" services. 4. Check for VNC Configuration: - Ensure that the VNC server is running on the Windows 7 machine. - Double-check the VNC server's configuration settings for any restrictions on incoming connections. 5. Antivirus and Firewall Settings: - Although you mentioned disabling Windows Firewall and ESET, ensure there are no other security software blocking the incoming connections. - Temporarily disable any security software to test the connection. 6. Network Configuration: - Ensure that the Windows 7 machine has a static IP address or that the DHCP lease is configured properly. 7. Verify Port Forwarding: - If you are connecting remotely from outside your local network, ensure that port forwarding is correctly set up on your router to allow incoming connections on the required ports for VNC and Remote Desktop. 8. Restart Services and Reboot: - Try restarting the Remote Desktop and VNC services on the Windows 7 machine. - Reboot the Windows 7 machine after making any changes to the settings. 9. Check Event Viewer: - Look into the Windows Event Viewer for any relevant error messages that might indicate the reason for the connection failure. By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with remote connections to your Windows 7 HTPC. If the problem persists, you might want to consider reinstalling the VNC software or trying alternative remote access solutions.
