Hi all,

Recently (last 2 weeks) I am unable to remote desktop connect to a Windows 2003 Server. I heard that an update was recently done on 2K3 Server that is stopping me from connecting now.

"The remote session was disconnected because the local computer's client access licence could not be upgraded or renewed. Please contact the server administrator."

Any ideas on how to connect via Windows 7 now since this 2K3 patch?

I am currently using the VPC XP SP3 (the one build in windows 7), but it's a tad slow...

Thanks in advance...

Darrell

Darrell, It seems like the issue you are facing with remote desktop connecting to a Windows 2003 Server might indeed be related to the security update KB958469 that was installed on the server. This update could be causing the error message you mentioned, stating that the local computer's client access license could not be upgraded or renewed. To address this problem and connect via Windows 7 after this update, you can try the following steps: 1. Update Client Access Licenses (CALs): - Access the Windows Server 2003 and check the current status of the Client Access Licenses (CALs). Ensure that they are up to date and valid. 2. Check Remote Desktop Configuration: - Verify the Remote Desktop settings on the server to ensure...

Check Remote Desktop Configuration: - Verify the Remote Desktop settings on the server to ensure that they allow connections from Windows 7 machines. 3. Verify Compatibility: - Confirm that the Windows 2003 Server is still compatible with Windows 7 for Remote Desktop connections. 4. Update Remote Desktop Client: - Make sure that the Remote Desktop Client on the Windows 7 machine is updated to the latest version. 5. Registry Configuration: - There might be a need to adjust some registry settings on the Windows 2003 Server or the Windows 7 machine to allow the connections. 6. Consider Alternative Options: - If the above steps do not work or if the performance on the virtual Windows XP SP3 machine is too slow, you may consider alternative remote desktop solutions or tools. If you encounter any specific errors or difficulties while following these steps, feel free to provide more details so that I can assist you further.
