RiverMeadow Software has recently announced enhanced support for AWS Outposts, enabling organizations to securely migrate and modernize on-premises workloads onto AWS-managed infrastructure. This development addresses the growing need for businesses to transition away from legacy platforms like VMware vSphere while adhering to stringent data residency, latency, and privacy requirements.
Understanding AWS Outposts
AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools to virtually any on-premises facility. It allows organizations to run AWS services locally while maintaining seamless integration with the broader AWS ecosystem. This hybrid cloud solution is particularly beneficial for workloads that require low latency, local data processing, or data residency compliance.
RiverMeadow's Workload Mobility Platform
RiverMeadow's Workload Mobility Platform (WMP) facilitates the end-to-end migration of workloads to AWS Outposts Racks. Key capabilities and benefits of this platform include:
  • Private Platform Deployment: The platform installs directly on AWS Outposts, eliminating the need for data egress and supporting strict regulatory requirements.
  • Direct Data Transfer: Data moves securely from source to target EC2 instances on Outposts without staging in AWS Regions, ensuring data remains within the on-premises environment.
  • OS Modernization: During migration, the platform upgrades Windows Server and Linux operating systems, reducing technical debt and meeting compliance standards.
  • Storage Rightsizing: The platform optimizes AWS Outposts storage usage by dynamically resizing storage during the migration process.
Jim Jordan, CEO of RiverMeadow, emphasized the security and efficiency of the migration process, stating, "With RiverMeadow's on-prem private deployment, organizations can migrate workloads onto AWS Outposts without any data ever leaving the on-premises environment. Our direct source-to-target transfer process ensures the highest levels of data security and efficiency throughout the migration journey."
Strategic Collaboration with AWS
In August 2024, RiverMeadow signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with Amazon Web Services to facilitate migrations from VMware to AWS. This agreement strengthens RiverMeadow's relationship with AWS and aims to drive mass migration of existing workloads to AWS. The collaboration enables RiverMeadow to offer customers and partners market-leading and differentiated capabilities, allowing them to lift and optimize workloads at speed and scale as they migrate off VMware.
Integration with Pure Cloud Block Store
In January 2025, RiverMeadow announced significant enhancements to its Workload Mobility Platform through integration with Pure Cloud Block Store. This integration extends Pure Storage's on-premise storage-as-a-service approach to the cloud, utilizing Pure Cloud Block Store on platforms like Azure, AVS (Azure VMware Solution), and AWS. This advancement provides unprecedented flexibility and elasticity for cloud-based workloads and disaster recovery.
Conclusion
RiverMeadow's enhanced support for AWS Outposts, strategic collaboration with AWS, and integration with Pure Cloud Block Store collectively provide organizations with a secure, efficient, and modern migration experience. These developments enable businesses to transition away from costly legacy platforms while retaining sensitive workloads on-premises, ensuring compliance and control.
