Windows 7 Sata Hard Drive Drivers

When installing sata drives in windows 7 are specific motherboard sata drivers a benifit to use over just letting windows 7 configure your drives automatically? In other words does the hard drive have the same speed and functions when letting windows automatically set them up. The reason I ask is that in device manager the drives are listed as ata drives when windows sets them up?

I searched the web for answers but cannot find anything except that you don't, in most cases, have to use your own drivers which I already know from experience.

Any help would be appreciated.

I normally load the motherboard specific chipset drivers, but I don't think it is really required, and may not make that much difference.

Have your checked your device manager to see if anything shows up as unknown?

You may have to load the audio drivers to get sound.
