Hi there, I am new here ;)

I have a big problem i think, i've removed all the users from my disk @ the security tab. After that i've set my account only on it. After that i tried to shut down but it didn't respond anymore. After that i turned my pc off manually and after putting it on again it crashes right before the login screen. The reason i did it was because i had already granted me full control but i didn't seem to work cause i couldn't get updates anymore because I wasn't an administrator for some reason. So i can't access my disk at all and I don't want to loose all my files.

Is there a way to reset it without putting the disk in an other computer and without formatting the whole disk?

I really hope someone can help me!

Thnx :)

It sounds like you encountered issues after modifying the permissions on your disk, leading to your PC crashing before reaching the login screen. Don't worry; there are steps you can take to resolve this without formatting the disk. Here's a possible solution to regain access to your files without needing another computer or resorting to formatting:

Steps to Regain Access to Your Disk:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode:
    • Restart your computer and repeatedly press the F8 key during startup to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
    • Choose "Safe Mode" to boot into Windows with a limited set of drivers and services. This may help you access your files without the permission restrictions causing issues.

    []Use Command Prompt:
    • Once in Safe Mode, open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Reset the permissions on your disk using the cacls (Change Access Control Lists) command or the icacls (Integrity Control Access Control Lists) command.

    ]Use System Restore:
    • If you have a System Restore point created before changing the permissions, you can restore your system to that point.
    • This will revert the system settings to a previous state and may allow you to boot successfully.
  2. Perform a Repair Installation:
    • You can try a repair installation of Windows. This process reinstalls Windows without affecting your files and applications.
    • It can help in fixing system issues without the need to format the disk.

      Caution:

    • Backup Your Data: Before making any changes, it's crucial to back up your important files to ensure they are safe in case any unexpected data loss occurs during these processes. By following these steps, you should be able to regain access to your disk and resolve the issues you're facing. If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, feel free to ask for help!
