I own an HP HDX16 laptop running on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I have the power setting set so that the laptop "does nothing" (doesn't hibernate/sleep) when the lid is closed. When I close the lid, the laptop constantly makes this "blip" sound which is quite annoying. I usually have to crawl out of bed to hit the mute button.

Any ideas as to what is causing this? and how to fix it?

    ]Disable Notification Sounds:
    • It's possible that the sound you're hearing is a system notification sound. Temporarily disabling notification sounds can help identify if they are the source of the issue.
    []Check Background Applications:
    • Close any unnecessary applications running in the background to see if any of them are causing the sound.

      Potential Solutions:

    [
    ]Disable System Sounds:
    • You can try disabling system sounds altogether to stop the unwanted "blip" sound. Here's how to do it:
      • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound.
      • In the "Sound" tab, locate "Program Events" and customize or disable system sounds.
    []Check Event Viewer:
    • Use the Event Viewer to review system events related to the sound occurrence for more insights on what's triggering it.
    [
    ]Inspect System Sounds:
    • Check if the sound you are hearing is related to a specific system event or action. You can customize or change these sounds in the Sound settings.
    []Update BIOS:
    • Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve unexpected system behavior. Ensure you follow the manufacturer's guidelines for BIOS updates.
    [
    ]Third-party Software Check:
    • If you have any third-party software related to power management or system maintenance, review their settings to ensure they are not causing the sound.

How to Disable System Sounds on Windows 7:

[]Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog. []Type mmsys.cpl and press Enter. []In the Sound window, go to the Sounds tab. []Under "Program Events," you can select system sounds and choose "None" to disable them.
