I have Windows 7 home premium, I'm having problems restarting. It says Logging off...but nothing happens and I end up holding the power button down to restart that way. This has been going on for at least a couple of weeks, but I've been too busy to mess with it. We've recently moved the computer from downstairs to upstairs. For a couple days after moving the comp., the battery backup was shutting the computer off by itself. The Backup battery isn't doing that anymore, but I still can't restart. Here's a copy of the minidump file.

    BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (74)

    What it means:

It can indicate that some critical registry keys and values are not present. (i.e. somebody used regedt32 to delete something that they shouldn't have) Booting from LastKnownGood may fix the problem, but if someone is persistent enough in mucking with the registry they will need to reinstall or use the Emergency Repair Disk.

Use system restore. If it fails, remove AVG and install MSE to replace it:

    AVG - Download tools

    http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

    Update drivers:

    iaStorV.sys Wed Apr 08 19:57:17 2009
    Intel Matrix Storage

    ElbyCDIO.sys Fri Dec 18 00:25:16 2009
    CDR Tools Elaborate Bytes AG

Update any other old drivers you have. Attach more crash dumps because this one looks incomplete:

    BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (74)
Can indicate that the SYSTEM hive loaded by the osloader/NTLDR
was corrupt. This is unlikely, since the osloader will check
a hive to make sure it isn't corrupt after loading it.
It can also indicate that some critical registry keys and values
are not present. (i.e. somebody used regedt32 to delete something
that they shouldn't have) Booting from LastKnownGood may fix
the problem, but if someone is persistent enough in mucking with
the registry they will need to reinstall or use the Emergency
    Repair Disk.
